The Village Inclosure of 1810

The Fuel Allotment for Great Ryburgh 1810

The story of a piece of land that was supposed to be compensation for villagers losing their historical use of the local Common Land. We can trace the history from the Act of Parliament that occasioned its existance through to 1894 when the newly created Parish Council system transferred the management of such civil matters from the Vestry. This single piece of legislation removed the "monopoly" of village power that was hitherto principally vested in the Established Church accelerating overnight the ongoing secularisation of the nation.
