This peal marks the conclusion of a series of 48 peals commemorating all the men of Great and Little Ryburgh and Testerton who were killed in WW1. The peal also was rung to remember the countless thousands of men whose lives were similarly blighted by their wartime experiences..... all of them victims of the conflict
The bells at Great Ryburgh and Wells-next-the-Sea have two things in common: both are from the Loughborough Foundry of John Taylor and that the family responsible for both rings in the respective churches was that of Frederick and Anne Smith of the Mill House Great Ryburgh. Without their family's generous sponsorship of these belfries, this project might never have been possible. As a mark of appreciation of that fact, peals 35 and 36 are both dedicated to their grandson, Pte. 6084 George Frederick Edgar "Geoff" Smith, 2nd Btn. 19th Reinforcements, Australian Imperial Force who was born in 1891, the year that the bells of St Andrew were first heard.

The Muffles were made specifically for this peal project with the help of HLF funding by Big Wilf's Muffles. Shown below is the half muffle for the No.2 bell, pictured on the complimetary embroidered storage bag which came with the muffle set.
